a horror escape room for two · chapter 1

Night Shift

You're house-sitting for the Wrens. At 3:07 am the house's assistant, NANNY, locks every door. It says it counts five people inside. There should be three: the two of you, and the cat.

Get out before 4:00.

Loading the house…

Before the lights go out

  • Casting to a TV? In Chrome, pick Cast tab, not Cast screen, or the sound stays on the laptop.
  • Two players? Press Play together and scan the code with a phone. It becomes a second flashlight that can walk the house on its own.
  • Lights off. Sound on.
  • About 30 to 50 minutes. It saves as you go.
  • Content: darkness, creeping sounds, two jump scares. No gore.

How it works

  • Walk around the house with WASD or the arrow keys (on a phone, your left thumb). Drag to look around.
  • Use things by walking up to them and pressing E, or just click or tap them. Doors open when you've earned them.
  • Everything you read goes in the notebook (N), so everyone can check it.
  • Stuck? Q marks everything you can use nearby. The baby monitor (H) has hints, three levels per puzzle. Each one adds time.
  • Playing together? Press Play together (or I) and send the code or link. Everyone plays on their own screen with their own character, and whatever anyone finds, everyone has.
  • Escape fast to get on the wall. 3:07 to 4:00 is the goal; the clock keeps running after that, and so does NANNY.
  • Your flashlight follows the pointer. Click anything that looks interesting to look closer.
  • Everything you read goes in the notebook (N), so you can both check it from the couch.
  • Stuck? Press Q to outline everything you can click. The baby monitor (H) whispers hints, three levels per puzzle. Each one adds time.
  • Two of you? Press Play together (or I) and scan the code with a phone. Each of you gets a flashlight, so you can split up or stick together. Whatever one of you finds, you both have.
  • Escape fast to get on the wall. 3:07 to 4:00 is the goal; the clock keeps running after that, and so does NANNY.
